Overhead press: every rep counted.
Face the camera, press, and hear the count. Apex One tracks both arms and only counts presses that reach full lockout overhead and come back to the shoulders.
How to do a overhead press
Works: Shoulders, triceps and upper chest, with core for stability
- Stand tall, weights at shoulder height, palms forward or facing in.
- Brace your trunk and squeeze your glutes so your lower back doesn't arch.
- Press straight up until your arms are fully extended overhead.
- Lower under control back to shoulder height.
Common mistakes and how Apex One cues them
Half presses
The rep counts at lockout. If you can't reach it, the weight is too heavy for now.
Leaning back
Brace and squeeze your glutes; press slightly back so the weight ends over your head.
Uneven arms
Watch the mirror view: both hands should finish at the same height.
Camera setup
Step back so your hands stay in view overhead. Use decent light and keep a plain background if you can. Apex One tells you when it can see you and only counts reps it fully tracked. Video stays on your phone.
Questions
Seated or standing?
Both work as long as your hands stay in view overhead. Step back from the phone until they do.
Is it OK with shoulder pain?
Pressing overhead can aggravate some shoulder problems. Check with a physiotherapist or doctor first, and see our rotator cuff program for gentler options. Not medical advice.
Phone position?
Facing you at chest height, far enough back that your hands are visible at full lockout.
