Lunge counter

Lunge: every rep counted.

Lunges are hard to count when you're switching legs and fighting for balance. Apex One counts each full lunge out loud from a side-on camera, so you can focus on control.

How to do a lunge

Works: Quads, glutes, hamstrings and hip stabilisers

  1. Stand tall with feet hip-width apart.
  2. Step one foot forward (or back for a reverse lunge) and lower until both knees are bent to about 90 degrees.
  3. Keep your front knee tracking over your toes and your trunk upright.
  4. Push through the front foot to return to standing, then switch legs or finish the side.

Common mistakes and how Apex One cues them

Shallow lunges

The rep counts at working depth, and the coach prompts you to lower a little farther if comfortable.

Front knee caving in

Slow down and think “knee over middle toes”. A shorter, controlled lunge beats a deep wobbly one.

Losing balance

Widen your stance side to side, like standing on train tracks rather than a tightrope.

Camera setup

Side view

Both legs and feet in view through the lunge. Use decent light and keep a plain background if you can. Apex One tells you when it can see you and only counts reps it fully tracked. Video stays on your phone.

Questions

Does the lunge counter count each leg?

It counts every full lunge. Do one side then the other, or alternate, and the total is spoken out loud as you go.

Forward, reverse or walking lunges?

Forward and reverse lunges in place work best, because you stay in the camera's view. Walking lunges move you out of frame.

Where should the phone go?

Side-on at about knee to hip height, far enough back that both legs and feet stay in view at the bottom of the lunge.
